Guests at the Institute for mathematics

In the summer semester 2023 we had two foreign guests in the group "Numerical Mathematics"; one was Mario Pezzella from Naples (University of Naples Federico II   ) and the other Şebnem Gökdeniz from Istanbul.

In the following article Mrs. Gökdeniz reports about her Erasmus stay here at Martin Luther University.

My name is Şebnem Gökdeniz Sıvakcı and I graduated from Yıldız Technical University (YTU), Turkey's second technical university, which was founded in Istanbul in 1911, with a bachelor's degree in Mathematical Engineering. I completed my master's degree in Control and Automation Engineering at the same university. Currently, I am a doctoral student in the Mathematical Engineering department of the same institution, in the thesis phase. Although I earned the opportunity for the Erasmus program during my bachelor and master's studies, I missed out on these opportunities due to some unfortunate circumstances. In the final stages of my doctoral process, I decided to make use of my Erasmus eligibility, and for approximately 6 months now, I have had the pleasure of working together with you at Halle (Saale) - Martin Luther University. Alongside my academic pursuit of a Ph.D., during my Erasmus period, I have also continued my career in the IT industry, where I have accumulated approximately 9 years of experience. Currently, I have been serving as the leader of a team designing Chatbots for international clients at a software company in Istanbul for the past 3 years. In my doctoral research, I will be presenting my studies related to my thesis topic "Quiescent (or stationary) optical solitons," which was newly defined during the Erasmus process.
