Abstract:
Time and shape are fundamental objects in mathematics. I will give a talk with two parts. The first part will be about how to model variation in shapes. This will involve new notions of shape spaces, using sheaves, as well applications in biomedicine and evolution. The second part of the talk will involve when one can learn dynamical systems, both stochastic and deterministic. We will also discuss how the results on dynamical systems allow use to provide mean-field limits for recurrent neural networks (RNNs), I'll also mention how this relates to one of Hilbert's problems from 1900. There will be lots of pictures in this talk.
